Love for Rent

Love for Rent

I was in my own world when he was desperately making love to me. “Love for Rent” That is what this is…
“Love for Rent, Oh that sounds so smart, isn’t it?”I asked, just when he decided to go down after kissing every millimeter of my whole face.
“What?” He asks, annoyed…but with a smile, this isn’t the first time that this happened to him, and he is quite sure that this will not be the last. I keep on staring at his tired face, his rough blond long hair messed up.
“What did you say?” He asked again.
“Don’t you think that this is a kind of love that one can get once in a lifetime, isn’t this for rent?” I think that I am sharp and brainy.
“Ha ha ha, rented for three years to be more precise, my contract is for three years!”
I felt a sudden sting in my heart; I hate it when he repeats that with such tough confidence. It injures somewhere inside my body at all times when he has to strike a chord in my heart about the softness of this thread that binds us.
“You are my delicious single brown female” he tells me twinkling his left eye. He is repeating the title of the poem “ Single brown female”, the poem written by my favorite prize winning SriLankan female, Vivimarie Vanderpoorten, the poem that I made him read one day on one of his visits to my apartment. He didn’t like the poem at all; he says that it is too rude of me to force him to read that particular poem out of the whole collection. He does not forget any single thing that comes out of my insane, untamed mouth.
He keeps on telling things, how pretty and irresistible am I, how much does he love my deep intelligent eyes, my gypsy hair and my caramel skin. His touches and kisses tickle my heart, disturbs my stream of consciousness, which I do not like very much. They reinstate my senses; give me an idea about the present time and space. I let him do what he is craving for and go astray in my own imagination…
A beautiful and peaceful house which got recently vacant, the owner of the house spent almost six months to restructure and modernize the house and currently the house looks adorable, modern but its serene and undisturbed look makes it look distinctive. She doesn’t have to give publicity to sell the house, people who pass by the house get fascinated by the view and they don’t think twice to stop by and get a closer look. It looks enough virgin to them and it is quite evident that the previous tenant has well preserved its beauty. This previous tenant was quite gripped by this house after living in there more than three years that he yearned for buying that. This suggestion astounded the owner and she got herself perplexed by this image of losing her house forever. Many horrific images started to reflect in front of her eyes and in her brain.
When the possession of the house goes to his hands, she will fail her control over the house, she will have to sweep, paint and clean the house regularly. She will not be able to keep it close for weeks, she cannot work on the garden as she used to do, she cannot throw huge parties and go crazy with her friends and in brief she will lose her freedom in taking care of the house and the garden.
These and many more dreadful illustrations made her recoil and after many crying nights and hours of looking at the ceiling, eventually she said NO.
He is panting and becoming breathless, she is thinking of a temporary tenant who left about a month ago. Well this last tenant was just the kind that she was looking for to live in this cottage. He spent exactly three weeks and had to leave the country due to an uncompleted project. However, he fell in love with the house from the very first sight, paid a down payment, promised to return to live there in two months. But such a house like this cannot be left alone for two months, if you think that it is such a short period of time…just imagine sixty times twenty four in hours? Does it look so short to you anymore?
Anyhow, this adventurer came in the absence of the artist.
He falls on my bare body with an agreeable weariness, moistened sweet exhaustion; I take his face in my hands, look closely at it, observe each millimeter in that red skin, kiss his lips softly and keep it on my chest with care. I put my hands around him and hug him real tight, he moans of pleasure..
“Hmmm….” A sigh comes automatically from my heart, throat and mouth.
“Hmmm…I love it when you do that, in real, over the phone and in text messages; well…I think that is one exceptional thing that I have noticed in you” He lifts his head and tells me, his eyes fascinated by my tired, sleepy face.

Wind comes fast through the iron mesh that I have put instead of the door. If I open the back door which is facing my writing table, I have to put another alternative door which lets the wind in, but which avoids that proud watch cat come in. The wind makes my books, dictionaries and the papers go insane. When the wind comes to encounter them, they all forget what they were doing and they let the obstinate wind turn all their pages back and forth, and make them erratic. For a second they fail to remember that they can’t skip the time and their pages have to be turned one by one, unhurriedly. You have to finish reading the previous page to go to the next. What I do is, I gently let them have fun and once they are done with the wind, once the obstinate wind leaves them out of track, I take them back to normal. I try to find the page that I was referring to. I am sure that they feel miserable to come back to the reality. I can’t help it knowing how much does my heart ache when I had to keep my feet back on the ground. None can help us, we will have train ourselves to get the flying heart back to this life and we will have to start from where we stopped.

Love, I ask myself the meaning of the word has no meaning anymore, or else it has such a lot of meanings that I find it really difficult to comprehend.
“Do you believe in love?” he asked me on the second day that we met.
